Pairs of carved tiles sit stacked on the table, and only some of them are ready to go. That small restriction is what makes The Great Mahjong a proper thinker's game rather than a simple matching exercise.
A tile can be picked only when nothing lies above it and at least one side, left or right, is open. Match two identical free tiles and both vanish, slowly opening the pile. The game offers plenty of layouts, plus two ways to play: Classic mode, where you chase a better score, and Time Attack, where you race to empty the board quickly. It runs on desktop and phone, with a soft, pleasant look.
