Chess needs little introduction, and this version keeps things plain: an eight-by-eight board, sixteen pieces for each side and one goal, which is to trap the opposing king so it has no safe square left. Simple Chess sits in the puzzle and brain section, so it rewards slow, careful thinking over quick reflexes.
Both armies line up identically, with a row of pawns shielding the king, queen and other pieces. Each type of piece moves in its own way, and the real skill is balancing attack and defence while you build pressure on the enemy king. Controls are friendly too, since you can play with a mouse or with a finger on a phone or tablet.
