Anyone who knows Chinese chess pieces will recognize the cast here, but the rules are not the ones you remember. Dark Chess keeps the pieces and rewrites the fighting: a piece can only capture something of lower rank, so every move is a question of who outranks whom.
It is a turn-based duel on a board. You lose when every piece you own has been captured or when you have no legal move left, which means trapping an opponent can be as strong as winning material. It suits short, thoughtful sessions in a browser tab, on a computer or on a phone.
